Balance transfer (BT) moves your outstanding loan to another financial institution, usually to get a lower interest rate. The new lender settles the old outstanding; you repay under the new terms. Axis Finance and other NBFCs provide BT calculators so you can see whether the rate drop beats switching costs.
Enter existing outstanding, balance tenure, current ROI, proposed ROI and one-time BT cost. Choose Keep EMI (finish sooner), Keep tenure (lower instalment) or Choose tenure. Total cash-outflow savings equals remaining payments at the old rate minus (new payments + BT cost).

Example: Outstanding ₹20 lakh at 10.5% with 120 months left. A new lender offers 9.2% with ₹15,000 processing fees. Enter both offers above — if the break-even months are shorter than you will stay with the new loan, a transfer may be worth considering after fees.

The new lender pays off your old outstanding; you then repay the new lender. A lower rate can cut EMI or tenure. You may pay processing fees, foreclosure charges or documentation costs on either side.
Keep EMI finishes the loan faster at the new rate. Keep tenure lowers the monthly instalment. Choose tenure when you want a specific end date or EMI target.
Sum of one-time costs to switch: new lender processing fee, old lender foreclosure (if any), legal/technical charges and stamp duty you will actually pay. Exclude regular EMIs.
Home loans, LAP and some personal loans commonly offer BT. Eligibility, LTV and credit checks still apply. Confirm with both lenders before applying.
Not if remaining tenure is short or BT costs are high. Use total cash-outflow savings after BT cost — if it is negative, staying or prepaying may be better.
Part payment injects cash into the same loan. Balance transfer refinances the entire outstanding at a new rate with a new lender.
